Colin Montgomerie, Big Bertha Alpha Win 2nd Major – 4 Things To Know

    Jeff Newton

Callaway staffer Colin Montgomerie won his 2nd major of 2014 and scored another major win for both the Big Bertha Alpha Driver and an SR 3 Golf Ball with his playoff victory at the U.S. Senior Open. Here are 4 things you need to know about his win:

    1. The Winning Bag

Here’s a look at some of the key Callaway and Odyssey equipment that Monty used to pick up his 2nd major win:

Big Bertha Alpha Driver (10.5°) – Aldila Phenom XL Shaft

    X2 Hot Hybrid (19°)

    An SR 3 Golf Ball

    Odyssey Tank Cruiser 330 Mallet

His driver is 45.25” long with Neutral directional bias and Standard loft adjustability. He was 8th in the field in fairways hit and carded a final round 69 to reach the playoff. With the win, he’s now just the fifth player ever to capture the U.S. Senior Open and the Senior PGA Championship in the same year.

    2. Big Bertha Alpha Is A Proven Winner

Monty’s used his Big Bertha Alpha gamer in both his major wins this year, adding to the driver’s winning run on Tours around the world. It now has 7 worldwide Tour wins and 2 in the last 2 weeks after Ryo Ishikawa used it to earn his 11th Japanese Tour win the week before. It’s also going to be a popular choice for our players this week at the major at Hoylake.

    3. SR 3 Now Has 3 Major Wins This Year

We knew Tour players would love how the SR 3 Golf Ball delivers HEX Aerodynamics fit to their swing speeds, but even we’re impressed that this golf ball has already clinched 3 major wins this year. With Monty’s two majors, a victory at the LPGA’s Kraft Nabisco Championship, and 3 wins on the PGA Tour, we can see why it’s our #1 Ball on Tour this year.

    4. Tank Cruiser Closes It Out

Monty lived out every golfer’s dream by draining a 15-footer on the final playoff hole to seal the win. Playing with a Tank Cruiser 330 Mallet, he rolled in the last shot of the tournament with perfect pace. The Tank Cruiser family has continued to gain popularity on Tour – players tend to like a putter that keeps on winning, after all.

Congratulations to Colin on yet another major win in what’s quickly becoming an unforgettable season for the World Golf Hall of Fame member.
