Furyk Charges To 2nd At THE PLAYERS – 4 Things To Know

Jeff Newton

Jim Furyk might just be the hottest player on Tour right now after making yet another Sunday charge to post his second straight runner-up finish, this time at THE PLAYERS Championship. Here are the 4 things you need to know about Jim and his equipment right now.

1. He’s Playing Phenomenal Golf With Big Bertha and SR 3

Furyk has been playing with a Big Bertha Driver (9°) and an SR 3 Golf Ball during his 2014 campaign. And so far he’s posted 5 top-10s on the year, including 4 in his last 5 starts, so it’s safe to say he likes the equipment.

His driver is cut to 44 3/8” with 1” total tipping, and is set to the Neutral directional bias and Standard loft. The Adjustable Perimeter Weighting slide is set to 1/Fade. You can learn more about the adjustments you can make with Big Bertha in this video. And Jim recently used his driver while offering up a tip to pick up more distance in this Get #BerthaLong episode.

He’s also been a big supporter of SR 3, a 5-piece Tour Ball designed specifically to deliver the best aerodynamic performance for swing speeds of 105 mph and above. Jim explains why he plays an SR 3 in this Callaway video. Pretty compelling stuff.

2. He’s Going Low On Sundays

He backed up a brilliant final round 65 at the Wells Fargo Championship with what was arguably an even more impressive final round 66 at TPC Sawgrass.

Furyk has been in serious contention over the last month and with back-to-back runner-up finishes at marquee events, it seems like he’ll break through with a big win soon. His caddie Mike “Fluff” Cowan said as much during a recent appearance on our Solid 35 podcast.

3. He’s Vaulting Up The FedExCup and World Golf Rankings

10th in the FedExCup and 12th in the World Rankings – that’s where Jim is sitting at after his solo 2nd showing at THE PLAYERS.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise with how well he’s played in the elite tournaments this year, from a T5 at the Match Play to his two runner-up finishes this month, and his weekend run at Augusta. His performance and his numbers in 2014 make it clear – he’s still one of the best players in the world.

4. He Hit Fairways To Put Himself In Great Position On Sunday

When you look at the keys to Jim’s bogey-free final round 66, here’s a stat to consider – he only missed two fairways all day. Always an accurate player off the tee, he drove it in the right spots with his Big Bertha to set up aggressive approach shots that led to birdies on his scorecard.

TPC Sawgrass rewards pinpoint shotmaking, and he took advantage of his opportunities. Great playing, Mr. Furyk!
