Callaway's new RAZR Fit Driver earned a prestigious Editor's Choice Award and Callaway Golf Company led all golf manufacturers with 16 medals in Golf Digest's 2012 Hot List Issue. This is the sixth consecutive year Callaway has led the Hot List medal count. Callaway was the leader in more Performance categories than any other company and received gold medals in every product line. The RAZR Fit Driver, Callaway's first driver featuring adjustability, was also selected as the leader in the Performance category for drivers, and earned the highest possible ratings for Innovation and Look/Sound/Feel. The new RAZR XF, RAZR X Black and RAZR X HL Irons all received gold medals as well, while Odyssey's Metal-X Blade and Mallet Putters were selected as the leaders in four putting categories.
RAZR Fit Wins Editor's Choice
The RAZR Fit Driver was one of only four clubs in the entire issue honored as an Editor's Choice. "(Callaway) embraced adjustability for the first time in real terms, opting for simplicity that doesn't sacrifice power or efficiency," said Hot List Editor John Strege. RAZR Fit features an OptiFit Hosel that allows golfers to adjust the face angle in Open, Square or Closed Positions at address to improve accuracy and trajectory. Golfers can also use two OptiFit Weights (one weighing 12 grams, the other 2 grams) to shift the clubhead's center of gravity to promote either a Draw or Neutral ball flight.
"I went with the square face angle and the 12-gram weight on the toe to discourage a hook," Strege said. "The result: Straight on two counts. Straight down the middle and straight into my bag." RAZR Fit received a 5-star rating for Performance, Innovation and Look/Sound/Feel and earned 19.5 out of a possible 20 points on the four driver scoring metrics – Performance, Innovation, Look/Sound/Feel, and Demand – the best score for any driver this year. Elite Tour Pros like Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson and Alvaro Quiros are already using the RAZR Fit in competition, and Quiros won the Dubai World Championship with the driver in December. RAZR Fit will be available at retail February 17.
New RAZR XF, RAZR X HL, RAZR X Black Irons All Win Gold
Callaway's three new additions to the RAZR Family of Irons all earned gold medals. RAZR XF earned a gold medal in the Super-Game Improvement Irons category and was awarded 5-stars for Innovation. Golf Digest labeled RAZR XF "a technological tour de force" and one mid-level handicapper on the Hot List panel raved, "The feel is exceptionally soft and the sole glides effortlessly through the grass."
RAZR X HL Irons also received a gold medal in the Super Game-Improvement Irons category with Golf Digest stating, "For high-handicappers, there's no better quality in an iron." RAZR X Black Irons took home a gold medal in the Game-Improvement Irons category and one low-handicap Hot List panel member commented that, "Every shot felt pure." RAZR X Irons were a strong option once again, and won a gold medal for the second straight year after earning a gold medal and being named Editor's Choice on last year's Hot List.
RAZR X Black Fairway Woods, RAZR X Hybrids Also Earn Gold Medals
Callaway also received gold medals in the fairway woods and hybrids categories. The new RAZR X Black Fairway Woods earned a gold medal and received a 5-star Performance rating. "It inspires confidence at address, and it sounds great when you catch it off the grass," said one mid-handicap panel member. RAZR X and RAZR X Tour Hybrids were awarded a gold medal as well and Golf Digest said, "It's Callaway's best hybrid ever because of the face and roll stories, but the Ginty-type sole is the unsung hero."
