Caring for your X-Forged Wedges

X Series Jaws CC Wedges

Callaway Golf's X Series JAWS CC Wedges are  available in a brushed chrome or slate finish. Both finishes are designed for performance, durability and enjoyment under all conditions of play, shot after shot. Depending upon the finish you choose, here are a few simple guidelines that will keep them in optimum playing condition.

Brushed chrome finish X Series JAWS CC Wedges are plated first with nickel, then chrome to give them a soft, opaque sheen and rich satin luster that complements the classic lines of these fine wedges. Wipe them thoroughly with a soft towel after each use to remove debris and moisture.

Slate Finish

Your slate finish X Series JAWS CC Wedges are raw, meaning that the carbon steel is not plated. With time and use, your slate wedges will rust, which will add roughness to increase spin and provide a non-glare surface.

A raw, rusty finish is the condition that many top professionals prefer. As the forged carbon steel of your slate wedge oxidizes, it will rust in a way that complements the sound and feel inherent in the metal, while also reflecting the personality of each user. You can promote this process by simply putting your wedges into play and enjoying them, then wiping them clean and dry immediately after each use.

In time, they will take on a character and finish that's uniquely suited to your style and conditions of play. If you wish to clean your slate wedges and slow the rusting process, you can use a synthetic scouring pad called Scotch-Brite™ Purple.

New Callaway Forged Wedges are available in either a Nickel or Copper Finish, and both finishes are plating. The Nickel Finish stays brighter much longer than Copper, and the Copper Finish oxidizes much faster to a dull state which is preferred by the Tour. Both of these finishes eventually wear through the finish into the base Forged 1020 Carbon Steel material. The wear occurs where you contact the face with the ball and on the sole where you contact the ground or sand on the sole.

Regardless of the finish, any wedges stored for the off-season or played in damp conditions should be thoroughly cleaned and dried prior to storage. You can wipe them down with a lubricant-cleaner like WD-40® to help prevent rust from developing on non-plated surfaces. Enjoy the beauty of 1020 carbon steel and the soft, pleasing feel it lends to your game in your X Series JAWS CC Wedges and Callaway Forged Wedges.
