Staff Pros Switching To RAZR Fit, Gainey Joins Callaway
Staff Pros Switching To New RAZR Fit Driver
The new RAZR Fit Driver was a breakout star in Golf Digest's 2012 Hot List Issue, earning a gold medal, a 5-star rating in the Performance, Innovation and Look/Sound/Feel categories, and a prestigious Editor's Choice. RAZR Fit is also Callaway's first driver featuring adjustability, and top Callaway Staff Pros like Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els and Alvaro Quiros are using the driver in competition. They have played this club at marquee events, and Quiros used the RAZR Fit to earn the biggest victory of his career.
Alvaro averaged 311 yards per drive with his RAZR Fit Driver at the Dubai World Championship in December, where he drained a 40-foot eagle putt on the 72nd hole to win by two shots. He carded a final round 67 that day, played clutch golf down the stretch and held off both his playing partner and the No.1 ranked player in the world. Quiros also averaged 327 yards off the tee the previous week, and he led the European Tour in driving distance for 2011. With his win in Dubai, Quiros finished in sixth place on the European Tour's final Race to Dubai Standings to cap off his best season to date.
Mickelson, Els, Trevor Immelman and Alex Noren have also used the RAZR Fit Driver on Tour. At the Barclays Singapore Open, Mickelson played a RAZR Fit with 7.5 degrees of loft while Noren carried a model with 10.5 degrees of loft. Noren had been using a RAZR Hawk Driver last year on the European Tour, when he won the Saab Wales Open and the Nordea Masters. Mickelson also used a RAZR Hawk Driver at every major championship and FedExCup Playoff event last season before switching to his new driver. Els and Immelman both posted their best PGA Tour finishes in 2011 with the RAZR Fit in their bags. RAZR Fit will be available at retail February 17.
Tommy Gainey Joins Callaway as Staff Pro
Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey became a fan favorite last year with his humble attitude, high finishes and his penchant for wearing two gloves on the course, and Callaway is proud to call him a Staff Pro for the 2012 season. Gainey joined the Callaway family in December following a breakout PGA Tour season in 2011, where he posted seven top-10s and finished in third place at four events. Gainey was a Callaway Golf Ball Staff Pro last season, and he's excited to sport a full bag of Callaway equipment this year.
"I will officially be part of the Callaway Golf team beginning 2012! Looking forward to great things to come," Gainey said on his Twitter page. He will also wear Callaway clothing from head to toe, and we can't wait to see which gloves he'll use at Tour events. Gainey is currently playing RAZR X Tour Irons, our new 2012 HEX Black Tour Golf Ball and an Odyssey Putter.
Grace Earns Back-to-Back Wins On European Tour
Callaway Staff Pro Branden Grace has become golf's newest superstar with his back-to-back wins on the European Tour. After going through Qualifying School to earn his EPGA Tour card in December, Grace won the Joburg Open on January 15 and won again the following week at the Volvo Golf Champions. He beat fellow Callaway Staff Pro Ernie Els and a two-time U.S. Open winner in a three-man playoff at the Volvo Golf Champions and established a commanding lead on the Race to Dubai standings.
“It's just one of those things where it's a dream to play here at Fancourt and it's just awesome to have a win here," Grace said after beating Els in the playoff. "And to win a tournament of this caliber is really just unbelievable." He is currently using an FT Tour Driver, a Diablo Octane Tour Fairway Wood, a Diablo Edge Tour Hybrid and an Odyssey Black Series Tour Designs Wide #1 Putter in competition.
