Most people think Eduardo, of Argentina, is called El Gato (The Cat) for his stealthy stalking of opponents on the golf course. He won the Rookie of the Year award on the Champions Tour in 2006, and while he has captured a lot of wins in his long career, he earned his feline nickname early on. At 5 years old, his grandmother said he was just like a cat, because he spent all his time sitting – even sleeping – in trees and on rooftops. He grew up as the son of a club pro in Cordoba, where he still lives. Eduardo uses and Odyssey Putter and has played golf all over the world.
He is a kind-hearted cat with a big, friendly smile and a Zen attitude. He practices the Indian yoga technique of Rhami Hayat and credits it with helping his mind and game over the last several years. Eduardo’s favorite course is Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland. He loves a good Argentinean steak with a glass of Malbec and enjoys cooking for his family and friends. He likes to hunt, and his favorite athlete is Argentine Manu Ginobili of the NBA's San Antonio Spurs. Aside from golf, he also enjoys watching soccer, tennis and polo. Eduardo started a charity foundation, Fundacion Gato, in his native Argentina to assist underprivileged children. In 2008, he realized his own dream by winning the U.S. Senior Open at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado, by four shots. Eduardo averaged 324 yards off the tee and finished the tournament at 6-under-par. “It’s a dream for me and finally the dream has come true,” he said.
