How would you react if one of your golf team’s best players hadn’t learned his multiplication tables yet? Such was the case at Taylor County High School in Kentucky, where J.B. Holmes first competed as a third grader and captured his first state title as a high school sophomore.
Holmes has also stayed ahead of the curve as a Tour professional. During his rookie season on the PGA circuit, the University of Kentucky alum dominated at the FBR Open. Holmes would win the same event two years later in a sudden death playoff. He also competed in the 2008 Ryder Cup, where he won his singles match and finished with a 2-0-1 record at the event. Holmes’ unique compact swing is unmistakable out on the course and his long drives leave an impression as well. J.B. has ranked in the Top 10 in driving distance every year he’s played on Tour. Holmes joined Callaway last February and led the PGA Tour in driving distance with in 2011.
