Kirk Wins With Big Bertha V Series – 4 Things To Know

Deutsche Bank Championship - Final Round

By:

You couldn’t have asked for a more gracious interview than the one Callaway staffer Chris Kirk gave after winning the Deutsche Bank Championship, with a new Big Bertha V Series Driver in the bag no less.

Calling it “obviously (his) biggest win ever,” Kirk said, “The 2 years I’ve had since switching to Callaway Golf…I’ve played the best golf of my life the last 2 years.” There’s no way we can top a statement like that, but we certainly can try by giving you the 4 things you need to know about his win:

1. The Winning Bag

Here’s a look at some of the Callaway and Odyssey equipment that he used to close out his 2nd win of the 2013-2014 season:

Big Bertha V Series Driver (9°) – Mitsubishi Diamana 62x Black shaft
X2 Hot 3-wood (15-degree) – Mistubishi Diamana Ahina 80x shaft
RAZR X Muscleback Irons (3-9)
Mack Daddy 2 PW (47-degrees, S-grind, 11 degrees of bounce)
Mack Daddy 2 Sand Wedge (54-degrees, S-grind, 14 degrees of bounce)
Mack Daddy 2 Lob Wedge (58-degrees, S-grind, 10 degrees of bounce)
Odyssey VERSA Metal-X Milled #9 HT Putter

2. His V Series Driver

A great week off the tee helped big time, as Chris hit 75% of fairways for the week and averaged 299.1 yards per drive. His 9° driver is set to a Neutral directional bias and a -1 Loft Adjustability. Kirk first put it in play at the PGA Championship and has used it in every start since (so far, so good).

Callaway staffers continue to put Big Bertha V Series in the bag, and our Tour Reps tell us that Pros really like the high ball speeds and forgiveness they see with this club, calling it, “a forgiving, long driver.” Winning tournaments helps too.

3. His Spectacular Putting

There aren’t enough superlatives to describe Kirk’s putting in Boston – we’ll just let the numbers do the talking. He led the field in strokes gained total (at an unreal 12.651) and was 5th in strokes gained – putting (an almost equally impressive 5.929). The birdie putts at the 13th and 16th on Monday helped him take control of the tournament for his most important win yet.

4. He’s Your New FedExCup Leader (And The Ryder Cup Is Looking Good)

The timing on Kirk’s win couldn’t have been better. The University of Georgia alum is now the FedExCup leader with just two playoff events left, and a near lock to be in the coveted top 5 heading into the Tour Championship. That trophy would fit in nicely with all the other hardware he’s collected this season.

His victory also came the day before the US Ryder Cup captain’s picks, and his case is as strong as any to receive one of those three spots. Needless to say, he made quite the statement.

Congratulations to Chris on his great win for #TeamCallaway.
