Versa Continues To Pick Up Steam, More PGA Tour Stars Put In Play

Jeff Newton

Versa was all over the news and the practice green at Bay Hill with big movement into our models and a lot of work with our staffers. Our Odyssey Tour Rep Johnny Thompson has been working like a mad man thanks to all the orders he’s getting each week, and that’s okay with us.

Don’t worry Johnny, we’ll get you set up with a golf vacation soon. Tell HR the Callaway Blog Team said it was okay. Now, to the big stories…

Versa Contends With Two In Top-5

Versa had yet another breakthrough week on Tour at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, picking up two new stars who both contended for the win. Odyssey delivered the custom-painted Versa Sabertooth Long Putter and #7 Black/White/Black model among the many requests that Johnny received from staffers and non-staffers alike. Here’s how these two Versa gamers fared at Bay Hill:

T3 – Versa Sabertooth Long
T3 – Versa #7 Black/White/Black

Again, this is the first week those two putters were in those bags. How’s that for making an immediate impact?

Gainey Moves Into A Custom Versa Backstryke Blade

Tommy Gainey also put in a Versa Putter for the Arnold Palmer Invitational, a custom-painted Backstryke Blade model. He went on to make the cut and since he’s such a nice guy, we assume he thanked Johnny at least three or four times for all the hard work.

Gainey is the latest Callaway staffer to play Versa, joining a long list of users that includes Phil Mickelson, Gary Woodland, Branden Grace and Ernie Els. That’s some good company to be around.

Odyssey Leads All Putter Brands In Worldwide Tour Wins

The #1 Putter in Golf leads all putter brands with 11 victories across the major worldwide Tours this year. We added to that number on Sunday following an impressive win at the Maybank Malaysian Open, where a White Hot XG #7 took home the victory. You can read up on all of Odyssey’s wins on their Tour page. It won’t take you long, but there are a lot of wins to go through this year. What can we say; it’s been a fun year so far.

Noren and Larrazabal Have Strong Weeks On European Tour

Pablo Larrazabal belted big drives all week and Alexander Noren kept his steady play going as both men finished T6 at the Maybank Malaysian Open. Larrazabal ranked 3rd in the field in driving distance at 305.7 yards a pop with his X Hot Pro Driver (9.5°). He played an X Hot 3-wood, RAZR X Muscleback Irons and the new HEX Chrome+ Golf Ball as well.

Noren used a RAZR Fit Xtreme Driver (8.5°), X Hot 3-wood, X Forged Irons and a HEX Black Tour Ball to post his second top-10 on the season. He’s now made the cut in all six starts this year and sits in 18th place on the European Tour’s Race to Dubai standings. The guy’s been rock steady for the last three seasons, and he’s quietly moved near the top-50 in the World Golf Rankings. Keep it up, Alex!
