In April of 2008, Trevor Immelman became the first South African to win the Masters since Callaway Staff Icon Gary Player in 1978. Immelman credits his calm attitude during the final round to an encouraging voicemail from Player. "Mr. Player told me he believed in me and I needed to believe in myself," said Immelman. "I took that all to heart and I'm obviously thankful for the message and I'm sure he's proud of me." Immelman looked completely in control throughout that final round, stretching his lead to six shots before eventually cruising to a three-shot win.
Immelman has been quite the world traveler, alternating his playing schedule between the PGA and European Tours before moving to the US Tour full time. He won the South African Airways Open in his home country back-to-back years in 2003 and 2004 and also beat a first-rate field at the 2006 Cialis Western Open. He competed for the International side during the 2005 and 2007 Presidents Cup. Trevor and his wife, Carminita, have one son, Jacob Trevor, and one daughter, Mya Belinda.
