Frequently Asked Questions

How to choose a fairway wood

  • When selecting a fairway wood, it is important to have a model and shaft that matches your unique swing and playstyle.

  • Callaway offers a wide range of fairway woods designed to fit every type of golfer.

How do I choose between a 3-wood, 5-wood, or 7-wood?

  • Choose fairway wood(s) based on your carry distance gaps, not just by the number on the club. As a rule of thumb:
    • A 3 wood (~15°) is the longest and is a great option off the tee as well as the fairway.
    • A 5 wood (~18–21°) will launch higher giving you more stopping power on approach shots.
    • A 7 wood (~20–24°) is highest-launching and very forgiving.
    • Fairway woods should be fit to your driver and longest iron/hybrid gaps.
  • Most Callaway 3-woods feature Optifit technology, allowing you to adjust the loft of your fairway woods by +2º/-1º.

How to choose a fairway wood shaft

  • Fairway wood shaft flex and weight should align with your swing speed and tempo.
    • +105 MPH swing speed recommended shaft flex: X Stiff Flex (X-Flex)
    • 95-105 MPH swing speed recommended shaft flex: Stiff Flex (S-Flex)
    • 85-95 MPH swing speed recommended shaft flex: Regular Flex (R-Flex)
    • Below 85 MPH swing speed recommended shaft flex: Senior/Ladies Flex (A/L-Flex)
  • The stock shaft option for each fairway wood is determined to be the shaft that performs the best for the broadest segment of golfers.

  • Custom shaft configurations are available for golfers looking to fine-tune their fitting experience.

What is a Heavenwood?

  • First introduced in the early 2000s, the Heavenwood combines the length of a 4 wood with the loft of a 7 wood. It is designed to be more forgiving than a traditional long iron or low-lofted fairway wood, while still providing distance and high launch.

What is a Utility Wood?

  • A utility wood is a multi-purpose club that offers the benefits of a high-lofted fairway wood and the versatility of a hybrid, along with a more neutral ball flight.

Fairway wood trade-in eligibility

  • Callaway Golf’s Trade In! Trade Up! Program allows you to turn in your current fairway wood for a credit towards the purchase of a brand-new fairway wood.
