In 2011, John was involved in a traumatic motorcycle accident. This resulted in a leg amputation and the realization he would no longer be able to continue doing what he loved most - being a Crane and Heavy Equipment Operator. In 2013, he purchased a new set of Callaway clubs looking to get back into the game, knowing it wouldn’t quite be the same. Fast forward to 2018, he was the Vice-Captain of the USA ParaGolf team. He is proud to be a part of and support the Never Say Never Foundation, local Amputee Support groups, Amputee Coalition Advocates, participate in various adaptive golf clinics for people with disabilities, a brand advocate for Ottobock, and the Director of the Cairns Cup CIC.
